Night Hunting 101

Night hunting is an awesome and very challenging activity. Night hunting is a more challenging game with zero visibility that most humans are not really akin to. Before you go chasing hogs, here are some tips especially for beginners.

Weapon

The gear necessary for night hunting is often cumbersome and it is sometimes awkward to carry on the field. In this case, you should adjust your weapons depending on the type of environment you are hunting in – the terrain and the distance of the target from where you are standing from. There are wide varieties of choices with weapons, bows, guns, rifles, shotguns, etc. Since you are hunting at night, bow hunting light is of good use. Attach one bow hunting light and add a good hunting scope and your good to go. There are many weapons to choose from, you decide which one suits your hunting style

Calls

There are a wide variety of calls available nowadays, but to more modern hunters and especially the beginners, digital calls are more suited. Many of the digital / electronic calls are in the market and they produce a wide variety of excellent calls. The brand and model though, is a matter of personal choice. Just remember, when choosing a digital call, choose the one with no moving parts as this can cause a problem.

Camouflage

All hunters must be very keen in mastering this one. Animals have very keen senses, especially in hearing and smelling enemies yards away. What you need to do is deceive them. As a hunter, learn how to be one with you surroundings. Do not alert the target with your presence. Camouflage comes from the French word “to blind or veil”, that’s what exactly you’re going to do! When and Where to Call

Know the timeline of your target. When do they feed? Where do they feed? What is the usual trail they are taking? Learn their ways. During night hunting, hunter’s vision is limited and critters cannot be as easily spotted as they approach. But on the positive light, night times are where the most action occurs. For one, it is the time where most animals also hunt, hunting pressure is also low, and winds are often lower in the night.
